Barbour’s iconic waxed cotton motorcycle jacket, the International, was created in 1936 becoming the British biker’s jacket of choice throughout the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. 2011 marked the 75th anniversary of the International and staying true to that heritage, Barbour collaborated with Deus Customs to create a super heavyweight waxed cotton jacket. The classic four-pocket setup,—with a slanted map pocket to give easy access while riding.—is fully lined and finished off with a collaborative logo patch on the chest and smart leather accents.
I have been using this jacket over the past twelve months and found the design to perform well under a wide range of conditions. Far more flexible in terms of temperature control than my Belstaff leather jacket, it easily accommodates a heavy woollen sweater underneath in winter while being lightweight in spring and autumn. It is when the rain comes, however, that this jacket really proves its worth. It has been raining heavily in Sydney over the past few weeks testing the extreme limits of my gear. Over the weekend, I rode 700+kms in the rain and all I can do is praise the effectiveness of the waterproofing.
