Style Rider, Mabo Sato – Harley Davidson

Style Rider aims to document the world’s most stylish motorcycle riders, be they riders of classic, custom or cafe racer steeds. Focused on the intersection of motorcycle culture with individual style, here we speak to Tokyo based surfer and Harley enthusiast Mabo Sato.

Name: Masaaki ‘Mabo’ Sato

Residence: Shibuya, Tokyo

Occupation: Owner of B.W.G

Instagram: @mabo_sato

Today’s ride: 1944 Harley Davidson Knucklehead

Describe your style: Vintage fashion combined with items from my own clothing brand B.W.G. I like to mix influences from the motorcycle, surfing and skateboarding cultures with workwear so that items are hard-wearing for use in the city and at the beach.

Favourite items: My old Buco helmet, Wesco boots and this belt which was made by a friend of mine.

Next purchase: A 1932 Ford coupe hotrod with an exposed engine and chopped roof.

Style icon/inspiration: Motorcycle, surfing and skateboarding culture.

Best local ride: Nowhere in Tokyo as there is too much traffic. However, I regularly ride the 100km+ to Chiba to surf.

Best distance ride: Tokyo north 1,200 kilometres to Hokkaido and Tokyo south 1,400 kilometres to Kagoshima.

Tip for stylish riding: B.W.G photochromic sunglasses. They look cool and work well on a motorcycle.

Next trip: I would like to ride in China as the hotrod and chopper scene is in its early stages of development.

Why do you like riding? Tokyo traffic is crazy, but on a motorcycle, it is a relatively stress-free and fast way to commute.
