Style Rider, Salvatore Todaro – Honda CB750

Style Rider focuses on the intersection of motorcycle culture and individual style. Here we speak to vintage Honda rider Salvatore Todaro about flat caps and a pop of colour.

Name: Salvatore Todaro

Residence: Melbourne, Australia

Occupation: Builder

Today’s ride: 1972 Honda CB750 K2 Cafe Racer.

Describe your style: As a builder by trade, you’ll usually spot me in something more casual. The style that really speaks to me however, is a distinguished look inspired by fine tailoring. A proper dapper gentleman. And with the help of my daughters and wife, I like to think I’m somewhat “on trend”.

Favourite items: My collection of flat caps and vests along with the 1972 Honda CB750 K2 Cafe Racer pictured. If I can have another favourite motorcycle, it would be my 2021 KTM 350exc Wess to take me off road. And,—who can choose their favourite anyway—a thirds would be a recently acquired 1972 Honda CB500 K1 which is currently in the process of being restored back to original condition.

Next purchase: Taking it back to my Sicilian roots, I would love to invest in a Vespa and a new helmet from Ruby.

Style inspiration: To say I have only a single inspiration wouldn’t do my “style” justice. I’m quite diverse, and my style really depends on my mood. I take inspiration from all around me. Overall a clean, classic and vintage look, with a modern flare is generally what stands out to me.

Best local ride: Amongst all the greats, a stand out would be the round trip from Melbourne to King Lake, through to Gisborne and return. This ride was truly fun and testing on the cafe racer. An all day affair with lovely sweeping country roads which typically required us to stop at every country bakery to find the best custard tart!

Best distance ride: Merrijig to Bright, and return through the Victorian high country.

Tip for stylish motorcycling: I always find minimalism works great with a colour pop. It’s a great way to keep it simple, fun, yet eye catching.

Tip for best looking safe riding gear: Armour that can be incorporated within your riding gear and a stylish helmet.

Next motorcycle trip: Now that we are heading into the winter, my friends and I, do our annual Robe trip where we will tackle the South Australian sand dunes on our mighty dirt bikes. And when the weather permits, I’d like to ride from Melbourne to Warrnambool, along the Great Ocean Road on the Honda CB500.

Why do you like riding? Riding gives me a sense of escape, mixed with adrenaline. It’s a time to take a step back from everyday pressures and get into my zone. There is also the element of camaraderie and like mindedness when riding with mates.
