The Amalfi Coast, Italy

Positano, on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, is one of the world’s greatest coastal towns. A thrilling drive along a cliff-top coastal road reward one with outstanding views from practically everywhere including your hotel bedroom. An absolutely magical place, this is a must see on any trip to this part of Italy. Making Positano your base, you can take the ferry to Capri. Capri is an affluent travellers holiday island of choice. Expensive boutiques, including cashmere from Brunello Cucinelli and similarly priced restaurants dot the island alongside some of the Mediterranean’s best views. Further south are the partially buried ruins of Pompeii, destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Excavation has exposed impressive frescos and mosaics within the walls of the city.
