Ballarat, 80 minutes North West of Melbourne, is a charming town built on the money of the mid-nineteenth century gold rush. Broad tree lined streets, cultivated gardens, elegant architecture and a well maintained lake make the town an ideal weekend break.
Ballarat provides a good base for travelling around the area being 44km to Daylesford and 78 km to Kyneton. The Herritage on Lydiard is a repurposed old NSW Bank building (built 1862) that offers spacious and tastefully decorated rooms. On Lydiard Street are a large number of impressive buildings including a classic styled movie theatre. Around the corner is our favourite pizza place in Ballarat, Forge Pizzeria.
