The Rag Land, Waterloo

We were looking for something relaxing (read not too noisy and no queueing) one Saturday morning and stumbled into the Rag Land Café. Named for its location—Raglan Street—and the fact that it has been kitted out almost entirely with second-hand furniture, most of which are for sale, it’s a relaxing room adorned with bric-a-brac.

The signature dish—at least on weekends—is the Nasi lemak, a Malaysian breakfast of steamed coconut rice, boiled egg halves, tomato and cucumber with a house-made sambal, all topped off by a chicken drumstick cooked with potato and onion. But for me, the highlight and totally unexpected pleasure was the Asian style pork belly and egg roll which comes with a garlic, five spices and soy sauce.

The coffee is good, the bike racks outside make it easy to cycle there and the crowd is friendly. Overall, the Rag Land a nice local café and well worth a visit.
