Short for Acton Baker, A. Baker is widely regarded as having one of the best breakfasts in Canberra. Situated amongst the trees in the NewActon courtyard, A Baker hums with activity as dishes are whisked from the kitchen-to-table by a highly efficient floor staff. The menu is divided into all-day breakfast and snacks, with distinct lunch and dinner offerings for later. An open kitchen in the main dining space shows a team hard at work creating interesting dishes using produce sourced from the Canberra district.
Bread is baked daily, complementing the regional produce while the menu is printed weekly to take advantage of produce that may be available on short notice. Some of the highlights of the breakfast menu include the poached eggs, asparagus, fetta, dukkah, fried capers and house bread, the slow cooked eggs, crispy smoked salmon, creme fraiche, corn and charred bread or a flatbread with Buffalo mozzarella, slow roast beef shoulder, hot sauce and zattar.
