Style Rider, Chi – BMW RnineT

Style Rider aims to document the world’s most stylish motorcycle riders, be they riders of classic, custom or cafe racer steeds. Focused on the intersection of motorcycle culture with individual style, here we speak to Chi about safe riding gear and simplifying a BMW RnineT.

Name: Chi

Residence: Wollongong, NSW

Occupation: Safety Consultant

Today’s ride: ‘The Smooth Criminal’ 2016 BMW RnineT. Being focused on function, practicality and style, I started off by simplifying the bike, eliminating or refining some of the non-essentials such as airbox and muffler. I then adjusted the riding position to suit my body. This included the seat which was moulded and shaped to fit as well as the handlebar positioning thanks to Rizoma. I love riding at dawn so I upgraded to an adaptive Motodemic LED Headlight which gives me a clearer vision for safety. Finally, the paintwork. A simple addition of black on parts of the bike thanks to Beau Franklin (@64creepstreet) and a touch of gold metallic that pops nicely in direct sunlight.

Describe your style: Modern street with OG heritage flair.

Favourite items: Ruby Pavilion helmet, Clutch.Moto Indigo Selvedge Denim Jeans and Moria Handmade leather backpack.

Next purchase: Trucker Cap.

Style inspiration: Joey Bada$$ x Dwayne Wade.

Best local ride: Wollongong to Berrima NSW via Macquarie Pass.

Best distance ride: The Great Ocean Road, Victoria. I love it for the varied environments, in particular, the country and ocean views. The coastal road reminds me of the coastal run here in my home town of Wollongong. Fresh air and freedom.

Tip for stylish motorcycle riding: Be you. And throw in something a little different. Dress for the destination but don’t forget the importance of thermal comfort and protection. Invest in quality gear! All these elements will ensure you get the best out of every ride.

Next motorcycle trip: Wollongong to the Blue Mountains, NSW.

Why do you like riding? Freedom. Friends. Feeling.
