Akiba, Canberra

Akiba is one of those funky places that will stick in your mind and keep you coming back. Why? Imagine this scenario. You’ve just driven 300km from Sydney to Canberra after an intense week at work. You arrive at 9pm in Canberra, tired and starving and you check into the hotel; Hyatt Canberra. You kind of want to go and have a bath and sleep but you still need to eat… not fast food but something good. It has to be quick, fresh, interesting, super tasty, and at a great price. Welcome to Akiba.

Start with a pork belly bun and soy-cured salmon belly as a warm up. For mains, we recommend the Japanese fried chicken with lemon braised onions and parmesan, and the beef short rib with tamarind caramel and Thai basil. Finally, finished off with a Salted Caramel Old Fashioned.

Akiba’s funky and service minded staff give you all the attention you need. We we’re seated, served and feeling satisfied within an hour. By 10.15pm we were back at the hotel in bed relaxed and ready for a fun Saturday after a long sleep in….
