Augustiner Bräu is Austria’s largest and most successful beer garden with an enormous 1400 seat capacity. Founded in 1621 by Augustinian monks, the beer is brewed in accordance with the purity law, comprising just malt, water, hops and yeast, and is completely free of preservatives. Beer is drawn directly from wooden barrels and served in stone jugs, or steins. Regional and traditional Austrian dishes are available from various independently run food stalls in the “Schmankerlgang” (Delicatessen arcade) which resembles a traditional marketplace. The x-factor of Augustiner Bräu is that it is also a fun place to enjoy regional cuisine in a historical setting, all washed down with a nice beer.
