Bistro Moncur, Woollahra

Bistro Moncur

Bistro Moncur, in the iconic Woollahra hotel, has long been a favourite with well-to-do eastern suburbs diners. Head chef Sam Kane, Executive chef Darrien Potaka and their team in the kitchen were awarded one ‘Hat’ in the 2015 SMH Good Food Guide for their classic French cooking. On three recent visits, the food has been consistently excellent, the service professional and atmosphere charming.

It is Bistro Moncur’s consistency that really impresses. The staff know their business and the focus on quality is evident throughout the dining experience. It must be noted that the serving staff, like the kitchen, are true professionals. At Bistro Moncur you can order the same soufflé for entrée and main and beyond checking they got your order correct, the staff will happily accommodate you; that would be the cheesy goodness of the French Onion soufflé.

The grilled Sirloin Cafe de Paris and frites is classic fare and understandably a hallmark of Bistro Moncur’s traditional French cooking while the sausage and mash is almost overly-generous in its portion size. For those of us more used to the inner city treats of Surry Hills, Bistro Moncur makes for an ideal venue for family get togethers with something on the menu to appeal to everyone.
