The Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice is a public monument in Postman’s Park in the City of London, commemorating ordinary people who died saving the lives of others and might otherwise have been forgotten.
This is one of those half-forgotten curiosities that make London such an endlessly fascinating city in which to live and work. Situated near St Paul’s Cathedral, it contains GF Watts’s extraordinary Memorial to Heroic Self-Sacrifice.
The memorial takes the form of a wooden cloister containing more than 50 beautiful and poignant memorial tablets describing those who died saving the lives of others.
